Ishmael Toloba "Thank you" ![]() His ambition is to become a top international artist. Ishmeal began learning arts and crafts at the young age of thirteen. Motivated and inspired he self-taught painting before coming fully independent at the age of eighteen. Career wise, Ishmel has shown his work in the Ghana International Trade Fair four times and thoroughly benefited from it; selling paintings to collectors and tourists alike, whilst enforcing a name in the art world for himself. Self-confident, he is positive and has gained a lot from his experience in displaying work. Ishmeal comments on his art: "I actually name my paintings according to the images because I want my audience to know that what they are viewing is produced by me and to understand what they see with their naked eyes." His work is embedded with Ghana's energy, pulsating with rich colour and optimistic passion; it reflects the dazzling landscape and astounding atmosphere. Ishmeal creatively works on authentic 50 kilogram Ghanaian wheat flour bags. This adds another dimension to his work, with a glimmer of lettering often visible. It inserts an extra flavour to the piece; making each painting more unique and individual. Innovative and imaginative, he often takes every day scenes and gives them a humorous, soulful and lively approach. Each person within his work has their own individual character, whether singing, talking or playing a musical instrument, every person has a certain charm.
